Well, i don't really know how it is in other country, but Asia has a very strict culture, that's why it's quite hard to accept LGBT in Asia.
But in my country (Indonesia) itself, LGBT doesn't really have any laws or rules. It's not boldly illegal nor legal. The only law about LGBT is religion law and we all know that there is nothing we can do about. The only protection that LGBT people has is the basic human rights. So it's like government didn't really take attention to them.
Meanwhile, great number of people here do a major discrimination against LGBT people, ignoring the human rights and using religion laws as justification for their acts (seeing Indonesia in Indonesia religion is something dominant). Many people in this country still think LGBT as something disgusting and threatening their health. Many people even still think LGBT is a mental problem that need to be cured.
That's why most LGBT people here choose to hide and live in their closet, pretending to be straight. The one who dare to came out get harsh reaction.
But yes of course not everyone opposed LGBT. We also has people who are accepting LGBT with open arms. We also has many LGBT community that supports and helps those in needs.
In my opinion, i think that supporting LGBT is a personal right. Not supporting LGBT is okay. But making them less human by abusing them is a big no. Because i believe, the only thing LGBT people want is a safe environment where they don't have to hide or to be scared being their true self.
And the first step to make it happen is by being open minded and have more humanity inside us.
